News & Menus 11/27/2007

We spent Thanksgiving in New Orleans with Libby's family and it was great.  We were able to take a step back and reflect on how much we are thankful for this year.  We especially appreciate all of you who are a part of our SAME Cafe family.  We hope this Thanksgiving weekend gave you a chance to take a step back too.  Thanks Aunt Jane and Uncle Terry for the hospitality.  We had so much fun!

This Friday you can tune in to Colorado Matters to hear another story about our cafe.  Several months ago, Colorado Matters host Ryan Warner interviewed us in the CPR studio about opening the doors to this unique business model.   This time, the Colorado Matters team came out to the cafe and checked in on our progress.  You can listen at 10am and 7pm on 1340AM, or online at www.kcfr.org .

Next time you stop in to the cafe be sure and notice the new brown awning out front.  Recently, our building was sold and the new owners have decided to spruce up the place and improve our curb appeal.  On Friday, the trees out front will be trimmed.  Hopefully, this new look will help people see us better and find us more easily.

Last weekend, we were able to spend part of our Sunday evening with the Mennonite Economic Development Associates of Colorado.  We provided dinner for their annual meeting and got to speak on the issues of spirituality in the workplace.  It was a great evening of fellowship and sharing about the cafe.

Starting this week we have a couple of new faces in the cafe.  Keba will be with us each day helping prepare and serve food.  She is an intern from the Supportive Training Placement Program with Work Options for Women ( W.O.W.)  We will also have another intern from Skyland Community High School starting soon.

On December 15th the local businesses will be hosting a holiday open house.  This provides an opportunity for friends of Capitol Hill and Colfax neighborhoods to be a part of a wonderful weekend where they can shop locally and receive discounts and special offers.  We are running an add in the Life on Capitol Hill newspaper with 10 other area businesses.  I know Herbs & Arts (just down the street) will be providing tasty treats, specialty gift baskets and store wide discounts.  We will be open on Saturday and taking orders for holiday cookies.  Let us do the baking this year!  Stop by on Saturday, Dec. 15 or call us today to place your holiday cookie order.
